Plywood Yield Percentage Explained

Plywood yield percentage is finished-part area divided by the total nominal or usable area of the sheets assigned to the layout, multiplied by 100. It is a useful comparison metric when scenarios use the same rules, but it does not measure cut safety, grain quality, defect avoidance, offcut usefulness, price, or whether every part was successfully placed. Always read the denominator and completion status before comparing percentages.

Add the area of every finished part, including quantity. Divide that total by the area of all sheets in the scenario and multiply by 100. If parts total 3,200 square inches on one nominal 48 × 96 sheet, nominal-area yield is 69.4%. If the plan uses a measured 47.5 × 95.5 inch rectangle after trim, usable-area yield is 70.5%. Both calculations can be correct because they answer slightly different questions.

Name the denominator
